Inside COS' Minimalist Masterpiece at New York Fashion Week
Updated: Sep 22
Today, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the COS show in New York. The London-based brand presented its Autumn-Winter 2024 collection in an extraordinary location — the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and believe me, it wasn’t just a fashion show; it was an experience I’ll remember for a long time.
Guests, including myself, were brought to the venue by ferry, which already created a unique atmosphere. Among the attendees were star-studded guests, from Emma Roberts to Emily Ratajkowski and Chloë Sevigny.
However, despite the attention to the guests, the COS collection truly stole the show. It was an ode to minimalism, with a focus on strong silhouettes, tactile materials, and, as always, timeless pieces. COS Design Director Karin Gustafsson, who leads the brand’s creative team, found inspiration in ballet and movement — particularly in the works of choreographer Pina Bausch. This is where the collection’s "fluid structure" comes from — a combination of soft, flowing fabrics and sharp lines. On the runway, you could see silk dresses, cocoon coats, and leather jackets, all styled with loafers, low-heeled pumps, and ballet flats.
What impressed me the most was the play with textures. From soft silks to dense leathers — every piece felt like a work of art. The color palette was kept in calm, neutral tones — from dove gray and charcoal to deep black and beige, with vibrant pops of green breaking through the calm. The textures and fabrics themselves shaped the garments, creating that sculptural effect Karin talked about.
Perhaps what I loved most about the collection was how it embodied the idea of layering and versatility. These aren’t just trendy pieces; they’re garments that will stay relevant for seasons to come. And while COS always emphasizes longevity, this season the brand truly took its vision of minimalism to a new level.
This show was not just about showcasing new trends but also a reminder of the importance of investing in classic pieces and enjoying every element of your wardrobe. I can't wait to try on some of these exquisite pieces myself!
