Proenza Schouler: A Fresh Take on the Season’s Trends
Friends, how about this start to Fashion Week? Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler took the fashion world by storm, kicking things off two days before the official start of New York Fashion Week. And they didn’t just present a collection—they set the trends we’ll be seeing and discussing all season long. As a fashion blogger, I can’t help but share my thoughts and impressions about what we saw on the runway.
McCollough and Hernandez decided to go back to the brand’s roots this time. They stripped away the excess and left only what really matters. The pieces were minimalist but full of character. Draped rectangular shapes, light tops and skirts that reveal just the right amount of skin, flowing floral dresses—everything looked fresh and current. They were inspired by a nautical theme, but without the typical stripes and anchors. It’s more about movement and freedom rather than obvious "sailor" associations.
What impressed me the most were the striped knit dresses and sets. They look so versatile—perfect for everyday wear but still guaranteed to make a statement. I have a feeling these pieces will be the new "must-haves," just like their velvet tie-dye dresses from a few years ago.
Of course, we can’t forget how Proenza Schouler played with their signature details like pleats and fringe. The pleated dresses were absolutely stunning—so graceful, almost like something inspired by Greek goddesses. And the fringe added a cool punk vibe that I’ll definitely remember. It’s a great example of how the brand balances between classic and modern styles.
And let’s talk about the shoes! In collaboration with Sorel, they created some super cool rubber boots and sneakers with a minimalist PS logo. It’s the perfect footwear for city streets—stylish and practical, which I really appreciate. I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot of street style looks featuring these sneakers in New York.
Lastly, the short shirt dresses with "sail" details on the back. These are going to be bestsellers! They’re versatile, stylish, and perfect for any occasion.
In my opinion, Proenza Schouler once again proved that they can not only create beautiful clothes but also set trends. This season is all about freedom, ease, and emotional pieces that you want to wear not because you have to but because they speak to you. What do you think will be the biggest trends this fall?
